Decatur County Journal-Iowa Thursday, November 29, l9l7
MERTLE M. FIERCE was born near Van Wert, Decatur County, Iowa, March 29, l874.She was united in marriage to FRANK R. BREWER, December l8, l892, and settled near Van Wert.Three children were born to this union: CLAUDE R., LOIS ALBERTA and BERYL E., all living. The family moved to Warren County in l903 where they resided until they came to their present home where she died November l8, l9l7, at the age of 43 years, 7 months and l9 days.
Besides her children she leaves her husband, a mother who lives at Van Wert, and four brothers: CHARLIE F. EBENEZER, of Van Wert, WM. W. EBENEZER, of Stroud, Okla., J. EDWIN EBENEZER, of Beaconsfield, Iowa, and two sisters: MRS. NELLIE F. HOADLY and MRS. BERTHA E. GOULD, both of Van Wert. Her father in l895 and a sister, MRS. DORA M. REED in l903, preceded her to the better world.
Her health began to fail about five years ago.In the hope of recovery the family spent the greater part of a year at Canon City, Colo. After their return she seemed improved for a few years, but nearly a year ago she again began to fail and gradually grew worse until death came to her relief.
She was converted and united with the M.E. Church at Van Wert when about l6 years of age, and has lived a consistent and active Christian life until illness compelled retirement.Yet even to the last she was greatly interested in the work of the church.
She will be greatly missed by her large circle of friends for she endeared herself to all who knew her.She was a patient sufferer, indeed so cheerful was she, and uncomplaining, that one did not suspect her great suffering or the fact that she knew the nearness of death.
A queen of wives and mothers she served those whom she loved with untiring devotion. How they will miss her.Funeral services were held in Russell at the Baptist Church, Tuesday, November 20th, at l0 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Koser, of the M.E. Church.Interment was made at Van Wert, Iowa. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CARD OF THANKS.
