I have conflicting information on the father of Ambrose (and his brother Lewis) Brewer: One source says their father was HOWELL Brewer born 1722, and the other source says LANIER Brewer Sr. born 1716.
Lewis Brewer of Grayson County, VA did have a son named LANIER Brewer. Did Lanier by chance die and his widow marry a RUSSELL??? Lewis Brewer's wife Agatha referred to in her father George Holland's will of 1803 as "Agathy Brewer or Russell". Another reference claims that Rebecca (Russell) Holland, wife of William Holland (they were the parents of John "Hollon" who married Charity Brewer, dau. of Ambrose Brewer), stated someplace that Lewis Brewer was her "step-brother". I'm trying to get the facts on this particular line. The tall tale that Lewis "came from Devonshire, England with his mother and 32 Brewer families in 1774 and they were shipwrecked off Cape Hatteras, and Mary Elizabeth Brewer married their sponser Samuel Russell" is a fine bit of fiction, and it is a bunch of "B. S." that's messed up a lot of researchers over the years and accepted as "gospel". There isn't a shred of evidence for it. I need proof or at least very strong circumstantial evidence that Ambrose and Lewis are sons of either Howell Brewer Sr. or Lanier Brewer Sr. Thanks, Will Smith
