I believe Russell's father was probably Henry Brewer who was born around 1760 who was the only Brewer on the 1800 Ashe County, NC census. Tabitha Howell Toliver who died 1845 is given as the dau. of James Howell of Grayson County, Virginia. If this is true, then I am descended also from Tabitha's brother, Capt. George Howell of Grayson County who married Mary "Polly" Osborne, dau. of Enoch Osborne and Jane Hash.
The Russell name is interesting, in that my ancestor Lewis Brewer is said to have been the step son of a Mr. Russell who has not as yet been identified. There is a definite Russell connection. I am of the opinion that Henry Brewer of Ashe County NC is possibly a brother to our Lewis Brewer. He and a brother Ambrose Brewer are cited as Lanier Brewer (tho others believe they were sons of Lanier's brother HOWELL Brewer..). Ambrose and Howell Brewer were sons of George Brewer and Sarah Lanier of Brunswick County, Virginia.
Lewis Brewer's father-in-law, George Holland of Grayson County, VA referred to his daughter as "Agatha Brewer or Russell" in his will of 1802 twice.Agatha's brother, William Holland, married Rebecca RUSSELL. One of the wives of Ambrose Brewer was Lucinda RUSSELL.
Ambrose may have been in Ashe County, NC prior to going to Hancock County, TN. Evidence suggests your Brewer line is probably connected to mine. Apparently Tabitha's Howell line is.
Do you live near Warren or Coffee Counties? I live in Hillsboro, just a bit south of Manchester, and have been to Trousdale Cemetery in Jacksboro, where Russell and Nancy B. Brewer are buried.
