Hi Yvonne, I am fairly new to genealogy and my dad gave me a compilation of the Brewer family from Paint Rock Alabama that one of his cousins (Roy Brewer)put together a while back. Samuel "Black Sam" Brewer is listed in the folder. These are old pages, typed not computer print, but if you give me an email address, I'll be happy to scan and send you the pages. Below is some of the info so you can check if this is the right Samuel Brewer.
There is not much info on his parents but they were Joseph Brewer and Mary Martha Mollie)Frazier, married about 1826. Joseph died in 1849. As of the 1850 census, your Samuel had 9 brothers and sisters and lived in house no. 378 about a 1/2 mile southwest of Estill Fork, AL. From what I can tell, the house was on Brewer Mountain. Mary's father was Charles Frazier. Joseph's father was John Brewer, b abt 1775. In the 1810 census records he lived in Lancaster Co, SC. He was married with 3 sons and 3 daughters. There are no names. He moved to TN and is said to have been the first Brewer to settle in Franklin Co, TN.
I have been tracing the line because my ancestor, Emberson Jerry Brewer is brother to the "Black Sam" listed above. I haven't found much on Charles Frazier but his wife's name is listed as Delia on the LDS site. Hope this helps. Dana
