June, I've never found anything to substantiate the shipwreck story told about Lewis Brewer. I am of the opinion it was completely bogus. Lewis is cited in the 1993 Grayson County Bicentennial Book as a brother to Ambrose Brewer born 1753, which would mean that both men are sons of HOWELL Brewer, and grandsons of George Brewer and Sarah Lanier of Brunswick County, VA. This is supported by the fact that Lewis named a son "Linnear" (Lanier) Brewer. There is too much involvement on the part of Ambrose and Lewis with the Holland family for them not to be closely related. Ambrose Brewer's daughter Charity married John "Hollon" /Holland, son of William Holland and Rebecca Russell. William was the sister of Agatha Holland, Lewis Brewer's wife. I have reason to believe that Lewis Brewer was most likely born in Orange County, NC circa 1760, as Howell Brewer was there between 1755 and 1765. I find Howell and some of his brothers in Chatham County NC records later. These Brewers were also in Randolph and Moore Counties, NC. Moore County is of interest as there is a Brewer-Holland Cemetery there!!!! It may not mean anything, but then again perhaps these Holland's were related to George Holland??
