Hi! Dean -
Some more about the Taylors. In looking at the tax lists, I'm not finding any in Wilkes county. The Taylors start on this tax list in 1793 through 1799.(In 1790, according to the www.segenealogy.com/georgiamaps of the progression of the counties, Greene was situated just west of Wilkes. Then in 1793, Oglethorpe was formed out of the northern part of Wilkes and the northeastern part of Greene.)
I have found 3 in Oglethorpe and one in Greene.Jacob Taylor in Greene Co., Carson District in 1789; John Taylor in Oglethorpe, Collier Dist. in 1798; Clark Taylor in Oglethorpe, Hudspeth Dist. in 1798; and Robert Taylor in Oglethorpe in 1798. Hudson Taylor b. about 1782,had a son, John Taylor, birthdate is unknown although I have "Before 1800".Hudson Taylor was Nimrod Taylor's brother.(Aha!Now we're getting somewhere!) And Nimrod had a brother named Robert, also. I don't have anything on him.
Also, Kinchen Taylor won land in the GA land lottery on May 23, 1827 on the 67th day's drawing and he was Hudson Taylor's son, also. At the time of the drawing he was in Putnam County. He was Number 77, and his land was in Capt. Clarks' District, Carroll County, District 1,This is found on page 214 of the Official Register of the Land Lottery.
Here's an aside. Looking at my Taylor's: John B.(we think his middle name is Bankston) Taylor's birthplace is just listed as GA but his siblings have their's listed. There is a puzzlement, though.According to the census of 1850 in Upshur Co., TX, Thomas B. Taylor is in his daughter's household, age 72 and lists GA as his birthplace (Household S. Rice and S.A. Rice who is Sarah Ann Taylor Rice, my 2nd great grandmother). This puts his family in GA that year, 1778.The next four children are being shown born in Montgomery Co., NC starting "abt" 1779, and then back to GA, this time, specifically Wilkes Co., where the last 4 kids are born starting in 1787 with David Daniel. (I don't believe these children were born in Montgomery Co., NC.I think that is a Casey reference and Casey has proven to be inaccurate on a lot of things. Also, the date is listed as "about" for each of their birth dates.) Their mother died in GA in 1803, but no date or place. Then Nimrod, the father, married Phoebe in 1804, place unknown but probably GA. Nimrod enters his land in MS Terr. in 1813, specifically the west side of the Amite River in East Feliciana Parish north east of Clinton. I'll send you the map by email.
Let me know what you think.
