CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS: LEMUEL BREWERserved in the Army, Pvt., Co. H, 151st Illinois Infantry. He was born in Walnut November 19, 1841, the son of Richard and Mary (Pilburn) Brewer.When he was 17 years old he enlistedand served until the end of the war. He returned home and married Clara Van Arnum in 1870. She was born December 17, 1852 and died December 6, 1906. He was a member of the village board, village marshall and a charter member of Brewer Post 577 Grand Army of the Republic. They had seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Lemuel died July 11, 1914.
RICHARD L. BREWER served in the Army as a private in Co.K,57th Illinois Infantry andCo. E, 148th Illinois Infantry.He was the son of Richard and Mary Brewer. He was discharged with a disability on April 28, 1862. He died February 16, 1865 at Quincy, Illinois. (tombstone says: Oct. 2, 1866). His wife, Ida J. died in 1871.

SPANISH AMERICAN WAR SOLDIER MERRILL LEROY BREWERlisted his residence as Crab Orchard (Nebraska). He was born January 22, 1876. His father was Lemuel Brewer and his mother was Clara Van Arnum. His wife's name was Belle. He was a barber and had a shop under the Shearburn building. He died July 10, 1946.
