Thank you for the information in your replies (under the Zadock Brewer query). After studying the files at Rootsweb I came to the same idea about John Brewer, b. 1770, son of Lanier Brewer Jr. -- even before finishing your messages.
I haven't been referring to the same William and Ann Cato Brewer you're talking about. This couple is part of the Brewers, Hortons, and Catos, in Camden District and Lancaster / Kershaw Co.'s, SC, 1790-1800, etc. But since you know now you descend from Lanier Brewer Jr, there would have to be a different connection if any to William Brewer of Lancaster County.
Joseph's brother Zadock claimed SC as his state of birth on two census records. I don't know if your researchers knew they were from SC because of this or from talking with the families, but Roy Brewer Jr. who wrote “The Paint Rock Valley Brewers” said your John Brewer came from Lancaster County, SC.
Can you say where you found the quote about John and Phebe Brewer "PP/301-302"...where does this come from? I believe Phebe is another spelling for "Phoebe" and is a name in itself but I've never heard the other name you sited.
