Hogback Mountain and Moonshine
Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about the Bridgeman family of Hogback Mountain / Glassy Mountain, SC, and moonshining.I ran across a newspaper report of my great-great grandfather, John W. Bridgeman, being arrested at his still.I also ran across a letter from a revenue agent referring to "the Bridgeman brothers' still" on Hogback Mountain. The same set of letters talked a lot about "Major" Lewis Redmon, who apparently was headquartered out of the Dark Corner area of the state.I would like to know if anyone knows anything else about this part of our family history.Did the Bridgemans ride with Redmon, for instance? This isn't exactly something that was passed down in family stories, at least in my line, and I'd like to know more about it.Thanks!-- Stephanie
