Patton 'Pat' Bright, 72, of Church Hill, Hawkins Co TN
after struggling with his illness with courage and dignity
went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, August 20,
2008 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Dorchester, Wise Co VA and lived the
majority of his life in Church Hill, TN. He retired from
the Kingsport Press as a pressman with 27 years of service.
Following retirement, Pat loved to go fishing and to spend
time with his animals. He was a true people person, never
meeting a stranger. He was often mistaken as being the
"Real" Santa Claus. Mr. Bright was a member of State Line
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002, Glenna
Bright; his parents, Sidney and Gladys Stanifer Bright;
his sister, Louise Price Harvey; along with an infant
sister, Ruby Bright.
Pat Bright is survived by his children, Patty Newland and
her husband, David, Gray, TN, Sidney Bright and his wife,
Robin, Montverde, FL, Donna Bright and Bill Frost, Church
Hill, TN; grandchildren, Daniel Frost, Tyler Bright, Caleb
Bright and Amy Grubb; a great granddaughter, Alexis
Newland; his special friend, Mike Scott along with several
nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008,
from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of
Church Hill, or friends may call anytime at the residence,
109 Ashwood Court in Church Hill. A funeral service will
be conducted at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the
funeral home chapel with his dear friends, Dr. Tony
Gonzalez and Dr. Ed Dillow officiating.
A graveside service will follow the funeral service on
Saturday at Morning Star Church Cemetery. Mike Scott, Jeff
Byington, Donnie Wallen, Jerry Burkhart, Jacob 'Red'
Blankenbecler and Frank Gladson will serve as pallbearers.
