Thomas Brindley was born in Kent 10 December 1769.
Thomas and Josiah Brindley were shipbuilders at Frindsbury on the River Medway, Kent.. They first leased the Quarry House Yard, then built a new yard wich became the entrance to the Thames Medway canal They also operated a yard at Kings Lynn on The Wash, Norfolk. The Napoleonic War created a huge demand for naval vessels.
Thomas was made a Freeman of the city of Lynn in 1806/1807.
The shipbuilding company evidently went bankrupt (?) about 1826- he arrived in New York 30 May, 1828 withchildrenFrederick, Edgar and Edward. Wife Charlotte is evidently not on the ships manifest and may have died in UK or on the voyage - no record of her death found. The Charlotte Brindley buried in Monument cemetery was only 27 years old - not Thomas' wife.
An Australian descendant is currently writing a book about the Brindleys - contact me for more information.
