In the process of searching for the parents of my great grand father, John Arthur Broderick, I was able to find his marriage certificate. It listed the marriage for John Arthur Broderick and Henrietta Secord in St. Thomas Ontario Canada in 1878.John listed his place of birth as Essex Ontario, which is in the Windsor/Detroit area.It shows he was born in the year 1855. I originally thought he was from Ireland because one of my dad's cousins told me, that John told people that he was from Cork County Ireland. So his parents may have been from Cork County in Ireland.
He listed his parents as Patrick and Margaret Broderick. So now I am trying to find out any information about Patrick and Margaret Broderick's extended family in the Windsor/Detroit area.If John was born in 1855 then his parents were probably born between 1825 to 1835.
I found a Patrick Broderick in the 1871 Ontario Census at age 46 born in 1825 in Ireland, which would be the right age range. It lists him as the head of the household, Roman Catholic, ethnic origin Irish, and his occupation as a hotel keeper.
The 1881 Census lists one Patrick Broderick as age 11 born in 1870, ethnic origin is listed as Irish and the location was shown as Sandwich West, Essex Ontario, so he might be a nephew or cousin.
Another 1881 Census listing has a Patrick Brodreick at age 52 and born in 1829 which would be the right age range. It lists him as a Widower with no occupation, the ethnic origin is Irish and living in a household of John Rowan. It shows his location as Chatham Ontario which is just east or outside of the Essex/Windsor area.
Looking through an Essex library database I found a large number of Broderick's in the West Sandwich area which is now called LaSalle. It is a subburb of Windsor. There were also a few south of LaSalle in Amhersburg and also in Leamington, both suburb areas of Windsor.Since they were Catholic, they might have had a large family so I would expect to find some Brodericks that can trace their lineage back to the Windsor/Detroit area.
Here is some of the Census information I found in the Essex library database. The thing that really grabbed my attention is that almost all of these Brodericks are listed in Sandwich West. The William could be the same person listed as Willie in the 2nd group. There is a Maggie in both groups.

I can't be sure but I think this might be one large family or a couple inter-related families living in the same area. From all of these people there have to be some other people out there looking for these family members.
