Flo- Thank you for your post. I myself have wondered if my grandfather got his middle name "Homer" from his father...not sure though. And as a matter of fact he did change his last name to Brothers in the late 1940's. I guess alot of Brodeurs did this...
As for Elliott Homer Brodeur's birthdate....I was able to get it verified from his birth record in Easthampton. In Massachusetts they will not release birth records for people who are adopted or born out of wedlock....The kicker is that if the person was adopted you are able to get their birth records 100 yrs after the birth..but that doesn't apply to those born out of wedlock. Those records will only be released to the person, in my case Elliott Brodeur, or his/her parents...and since they are all long since deceased...that doesn't help me at all.
I am assuming that Elliott Brodeur was born out of wedlock...and if that's the case...was Brodeur his mother or father's last name...that is the question.
So anyway, I can't get his birth records...his death certificate doesn't list his parents names on it and I can't find him earlier than the 1930 census...I don't know if he grew up in Massachusetts but I know he was there in 1930. It's very frustrating to say the least.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be happy to hear them!! :)
