What is the source of this 1860 Brogden census data that you quote?
Is it a film of the actual census sheets or an abstract?
I have only an abstract of the 1860 census for Henry county, Tennessee and the data does not agree with yours for this family.
For Henry county in 1860, it shows a family group of:
Thersey Brogden 39 Margaret 35 William 11 George 7 Sophronia T. 1
No John or Cordelia are listed with this family.
On the same page, however, it lists separately, living in another unspecified household:
John Brogden 55
and also on the same page, another family as follows:
James Brogden 27 Sarah 21 Cordelia 1
To understand this data we need to look at the census for 1850.
In Henry county in 1850, we have what appears to be the same family, given acceptable age differences of only 1-3 years, listed as:
John 47 [NC] Theresa 27 [KY] Margaret 22 James 18 Catherine 16 Henry 14 Franklin 12 Ann 9 William 3
From this, it appears likely that Theresa or Thersey was the second wife of John (who was living in another household in 1860) and James with daughter Cordelia in 1860 appears to be John's son from the 1850 household.
From other sources and family models, I have deduced that this is the family of John Brogden who married Susannah Hoofman in Granville county, NC in 1824.Susannah is thought to have died by 1845.
Please check your sources re this matter.I am hoping to resolve these discrepancies. It won't be the first time I have discovered an error in sources.
Is anyone researching this family of John Brogden and his putative wives, Susannah Hoofman and Theresa UNKNOWN?
