Brookin/McNeill of GA. & Ala.

By Mary E. Miller February 25, 2005 at 11:13:38

Does anyone have a Brookin/Brookins, or any other spelling you want to use, McNeill, or any other spelling you want to use, connection?

First, I would like to say, thank you Merle Wilson for your information, which was accurate and most helpful in breaking through a wall which has stood for many years.

Nancy B. McNeill married George W. Welch in Muscogee Co., Georgia in 1847.

Nancy always seems to have used the "B" in her name for identification purposes. In the journal of Jacob Perry Welch (see Lauderdale Co., Mississippi) his recording of his travels gives much insight into inhabitants of early counties where records do not exists.

The "B" in Nancy B. McNeill Welch seems to have stood for BROOKIN.

OK..what we have here is this;I have much on the family of McNeill of Monroe Co., Ala. and Wilcox Co., Ala. and Tazwell Co., VIRGINIA.Family papers also state that there is another McNeill all of the same family, that lived in or near Columbus, Georgia.Which puts him in or near Muscogee Co., Georgia.

I know this is the Brookin genforum and not the McNeill genforum, so,ok...

Here's what I'm thinking...Nancy Brookin McNeill Welch, could have had a close connection to the Brookin family. And more than likely, this Brookin is going to be of Georgia.I know there is a Nancy Brookin on the 1820 Washington Co., Georgia census. And that she is suppose to be the wife/widow? of Thomas Brookin.

Can anyone supply me with any information on Thomas Brookin and Nancy?Children of this couple?Palease!

Thank you,
Mary E. Miller
