I need to find a marriage record for a first marriage for Robert Brownfield 1733-1821.Was she a Sutton? I have several proofs that he married in 1761 in Frederick/Berkeley Co, VA to Eleanor Henshaw Archer, a Quaker who was disowned from the church for marrying him. He was the Adm of the estate of her late husband, Jeremiah Archer.
I also have proofs that she is the mother of his children born after 1761 in VA and that she lived with them in Fayette, Co, PA, Georges Twp, until she died and was buried about 1821 in Brownfield Cemetery, Fayette, PA.
I am still working on the Brownfields of Frederick, Berkeley Co, VA and earlier of Chester Co, PA and after 1886 in Georges Twp., Brownfield, and then Smithfield, Fayette Co., PA.The PA website has plenty of info about them.
Problem:For Robert Brownfield, Sr., Rev War Vet b abt 1733 d abt 1821, I still think the name Eleanor Sutton is not right for a first wife. Her name might be Sutton. But unless he married two girls named Eleanor, the name is wrong.I have plenty of legal documents to prove that my Eleanor Henshaw/Hancher/Hanshaw is the mother of his last two children, Charles b 1763 and Rebecca b 1764.
However, the son Robert Brownfield, although an affidavit says that he is the son of Eleanor Henshaw Archer Brownfield and Robert, I think he was probably the step-son of Eleanor. Why?Because, Eleanor's first husband, Jeremiah Archer died 1761.She had a baby after his death named Jeremiah born probably 1761.How could she be the mother of Robert Brownfield born 1760?Unless he was born 1762, he must have been the child of an earlier marriage.
Please help me solve this puzzle and set the records straight.I can share any of the legal documents I got from VA State Library, and other sources.
By the way,I just joined the DAR and I see that all the members who joined on the patriot, Robert Brownfield, Sr. have that his wife was named Eleanor Sutton!I am going to try to find the proof for that in member applications, but I am not sure where to start.
