I have met another relative!Florence Browning was my first cousin once removed (according to the Family Treemaker relationship calculator. The old Browning homeplace is very near Guthries Chapel in Clay County. It was/is on an unpaved road that ends almost in front of the old church. It belonged to James Madison II (Jim) Browning. You probably know that after his first wife, Harriet Stone (mother of your John Daniel), died, he married Mary Jane (Molly) Smith. Someone on the Smith side of the family owned the place in 2005 when we last went to a Browning reunion. At the time, I thought I would surely remember the name and exact relationship, but I didn't. My great grandmother was Molly Smith, whom my mother remembered well. She used to go to Guthries Chapel with her to church sometimes. She faintly remembered her Grandfather Browning. She said he was a very big man--It might just have been that she was a very little girl at the time.
If you live somewhere near, you (or your husband) might have known the Burgess family--I guess that depends on your age. My mother's father was Truman Burgess, who pastored different Baptist churches in Clay County and Tallapoosa counties many years ago.
