I received info about my Brownings: "I have been researching family for many years, have made several trips to Lincoln co., Tn. (Norris Creek area where family lived) and also to Albemarle Co. Va. Some of my sources: Court Records of Lincoln Co Tn Land Deed Genealogy of Lincoln Co Tn Lincoln Co Tn Census1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 Zane East..Moore Family Genealogy Lincoln Co Tn Bible Records Vol II Albemarle Co Va Marriage Records W B 8 Albemarle Co Va John Alexander Browning Bible
Francis Browning, born abt 1786 Albermarle Co Va, died bet July-Oct 1824 Va married 2 Dec 1816 Albemarle Co Va to Mildred Dollins born abt 1795 Albemarle Co Va and died bet 1830-1840 Lincoln Co Tn
They had 5 children: John Alexander Browning Jane Mallard Browning Mary Ruth Kincaid Browning Soota D. Browning William Meekins Browning
Francis and Mildred were planning to remove from Albemarle Co. Va to the "western county", Lincoln Co Tn, with her Dollins relatives. Francis and his son, John Alexander, had already made one trip to Tn. Apparently Francis knew he was dying and in his will stated it was his desire that Mildred take their children and make the move to the western country with her relatives. (Dollins family heritage includes a grandmother named Ruth Alexander and a Jane Kincaid Alexander} Mildred did remove to Lincoln Co Tn with her family and later married Amos Small and had a son she named Lemuel P. M. Small born in 1830 in Tn and died Dec 1862 at the Battle of Murfresboro. I believe that Mildred may have died in child birth or soon after and her marriage to Amos Small was of only a few years as her Browning children were declared orphans by the courts and did not get their inheritance from their father until they were of age.
