My great grandfather was James Browning. He emigrated from England around the turn of the last century. He settled in New York City, married and opened a restaurant in upper Manhattan on 8th Avenue called "Brownings Restaurant and Oyster House." He died young at which point my great grandmother took her two children, one of whom was my grandfather, William H. Browning Sr., and moved to Brooklyn. I am beginning family research and am using James as my starting point. If any of the above sounds familiar, and you don't mind sharing info, please let me know.
