I have the following information from my mother.Henry Clay Brumfield was her great-uncle (brother of George B. Brumfield).She knew him and his family personally and went to his home for piano lessons (from Pearl).Unfortunately, one day Henry went out back with a shotgun and shot himself.No one knows why.Anyway, he had a son named Millard Otis Brumfield.Here's some details on that immediate family.If you want broader info on Henry Clay's brothers and sisters, etc, let me know.His brother, George, was my great-grandfather.
8) Henry Clay BRUMFIELD “Uncle Clay” (b 3/03/1856 Wayne Co VA; d. 5/12/1926; took a shotgun out back of his house and shot himself; headstone reads “Gone but not forgotten”); married twice: (1) ABT 1881 to “Nancy” Ceres BOWEN (b. ABT 1860 Wayne Co WV; d/o John B. and Hester A. Bowen); and (2) 10/16/1887 in Wayne Co to Sarah Virginia “Aunt Ginny” ROWE (b. 11/21/1868 Wayne Co; d. 6/05/1955 Wayne Co WV; d/o Uriah ROWE and Minerva “Nerva” A. Fuller)
a) Fred F. “Fernando” BRUMFIELD (b. 8/18/1882 Wayne Co WV; d. 2/25/1957)He was a 1/2 brother from 1st marriage.
b) Clara Belle “Carroll” BRUMFIELD (b. 9/21/1888 Wayne Co WV; d. 6/15/1967; m. Delbert CARROLL
c) William Wirt (Bill) BRUMFIELD (b. 2/21/1890 Wayne Co WV; d. 3/18/1965); m. Cassie.They had two daughters: Madeline and Geradine.
d) James Mitchell “Jay” BRUMFIELD (b. 12/14/1891 Wayne Co WV; d. 3/21/1932)
e) Sadie BRUMFIELD (b. 7/18/1894 Wayne Co WV; d. 9/26/1978); m. Henry BARBOUR
f) Mabel BRUMFIELD(b. 3/22/1897 Wayne Co WV; d. 11/15/1994); m. Jay BARBOUR; they had a daughter Frances who played the piano beautifally and sang like a bird.
g) Molly Marie BRUMFIELD (b. 9/03/1899 Wayne Co WV; d. 1/05/1992) m. Scot BERRY (Scott was the mailman at that time)
h) Pearl BRUMFIELD (3/21/1902; d. 7/08/1993); m. Orville WOODS (Orville later ran off and never came back); they had a son named Jack Woods who was the band leader at Buffalo High School and taught music appreciation.
i) Floyd Eugene BRUMFIELD (b. 9/30/1906; d. 1/10/1924)
j) Millard Otis BRUMFIELD (b. 5/10/1907; d. 8/09/1980); m. Melita and had two sons - Mervin and Michael; Millard owned a flower shop.
k) Lelia Pauline BRUMFIELD (b. 8/08/1910 Wayne Co WV; d. 7/06/2002 Huntington, Cabell Co WV; buried 7/08/2002 in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington WV); m. Waldo BARBOUR. They had two children: Nancy BARBOUR (b. March 1937, m. Dale RILEY; played the piano)and Paulette BARBOUR (b. BEF 1937; m. Roy ELLIS; she was the choir director at the church)
l) George Henderson BRUMFIELD (b. 2/17/1913; d. 9/29/1991); m. Pauline Faye CHAFIN; they lived in Arizona
