It amazes me how the information found on the family trees at the Ancestry site can go so very wrong. I have an ancestor, Juditha Williams, who was born about 1792 in Virginia. I have found at least twelve treeswhich have her dying April 8, 1893 in Wisconsin at the age of 101. The problem comes when you access the “Find a Grave” information for that burial which I have posted below:
Judith Williams Birth: 1883 Death: Apr. 8, 1893
Inscription: Our little Judith-daughter of Mr. & Mrs. D. L. L. Williams-Age 10yrs & 3 Mos.
Burial: Cambria Cemetery Cambria, Columbia County, Wisconsin, USA Find a Grave Memorial #32804317
This cannot be the grave of Juditha Brummett Williams born 1782. As far as genealogy goes this mistake is not as harmful as it could be but one mistake has led to many, many more mistakes about this person and it is a great example of how copying someone’s tree can go wrong. I have a tree on Ancestry which has many mistakes. I didn’t want it posted for that reason however someone did post it and that has probably led to mistakes similar to the one above.
