My great-great-great-grandfather, Samuel, was the illegitimate son of a Buller and Dinah Faulkner (presumably a servant) christened in South Hinksey near Oxford, England in 1802.Does anyone know of any Bullers perhaps studying at Oxford around that time that might be a candidate for his father? He had light brown wavy hair, blue eyes and fair skin (like thousands of others, I suppose). His descendants tend to be quite musical, the men have heavy eyebrows and a number of them had an affinity for steam engines! Dinah's brother was a butcher in Oxford.
Samuel used to say his father's name was James, and his eldest son was called James Samuel Buller.(I know James is a pretty common name.)Samuel was sent out to Australia in 1821 in disgrace, having been caught trying to pass a counterfeit bill, and never returned to England.I have Samuel's violin, a quite valuable instrument made in the late 1600s.
