"Samuel, bapt. 30 Apr 1676, probably d.y.; not mentioned in father's will or settlement, and there is nothing about him in any of the Colony records. It is certain that he could not be father to the early Virginia Bumpas family as mentioned previously, since they appear to have been born in the same decade.
No evidence whatsoever was found that the Robert Bumpus who had 400 acres in Amelia County in 1749 was a son of Samuel, John, Edward of Plymouth Colony, as set forth by Wm. Moses Jones in "Three Branches of the Bumpass Family" (1962) but much to the contrary."
