William Buntin, Halifax county, VA, born 1764
Ancestry.com sentan e-mail about anew information source, U.S. Sons of the American Revolution Membership Applications, so I searched for William Buntin.
This produced an application for one Elma Burneson Wood, Sr.
Looking at the image of the original document, he was descended from William Buntin born in Amelia County, VA in 1764, died in Henry County, Tennessee in 1841. His son was John Buntin, born in VA in 1794, died in Crystal Hill, Va in 1872.
William married an Elizabeth in 1790, who died in 1834 in Halifax County, VA.
If this is the right William, this Elizabeth was a Whitlow, having married a John Whitlow, who died in the Rev. War in 1778. This Elizabeth made an affidavit signed by William Buntin in 1811 which asked for compensation for the death of John Whitlow. ( Library of VA)
I think These are Irby Green Buntin’s parents. I think they had William George Buntin in about 1790, Thomas in 1793, Martha or Polly 1794, maybe some more, but finally Irby in 1805. I think Irby was the last, because in the 1820 census, William Buntin age 45 or more and 1 female 45 or more had only one child between 10 and 15 in the household. In the 1830 census, William appeared again with 1 male 60-69 and 1 female 60-69 in the household, and Irby appeared with a family of 1 male and 1 female 20-29 and 2 children under 5.
William George is the one who had William Henderson Buntin and went to Person, NC, where he died.
John and Thomas appear in later Halifax censuses.
William Buntins do not appear in Halifax censuses after the 1830 one.
Does anyone know what William Buntin’s wife Elizabeth’s maiden name was, or can you tell me anything that might corroborate my hypothesis?
