I am researching (Bunton, Buntin)surname. I recently took a trip to Ky. I visited Mercer, Anderson Counties. There in Anderson County Courthouse I retrieved a marriage Bond for James Burgin and Rebecca Bunton. There was a Thomas Bunton who married Sarah Burgin. I have the front page of that Marriage bond. Didn't have much time to copy all I needed and I plan to make another trip in the next couple of weeks. I will get all I can.
I also retrieved a copy of two pages of 1870 census report for Anderson County. This is family 354.

This was just one household. On the marriage bonds for both that I seen neither of the grooms could spell their names. They made their signature mark with an X.
Both couples were married at the home of Thomas Buntin. The same day.
Back then names were just wrote down as they sounded to the person doing the writing.
On the front half of Rebecca's marriage bond her name was spelled , Buntin. On the back half it was spelled, Bunton.
Date of marriages was July 21,1875
I do hope I can find a connection to someone. I've been looking for Rebecca's family for two years now. My search always ends up at a halt when I mention that Rebecca was of indian decent. I realize her parents would have been born around the year of the trail of tears. She was a beautiful indian woman.Family said daughter and mother looked almost identical. No doubts of her heritage. I have a picture of the daughter. Black hair, long nose , high cheek bones, dark complexion. Funny but if you've ever seen the cartoon movie of Pocahonas this is so much who she looks like.
I hope this helps . As I go along and get more info I'll be sure and post it. If you find more on your Thomas and it looks like there might be a connection please let me know.
