I found one of your old postings on genforum looking for information on this couple.I would love to compare notes. Here is some of what I have:
James Burchett born in North Carolina Sarah Sally Woods born in North Carolina
James and Sarah married 6 Apri 1831
I list 6 children: Jeanette "Jenny" b. Feb 1850; married John Wesley Cheek (is this your "Jane"?) Polly Anderson (Probably your James A Burchett Jr.) John Issac Henry
I have found what appears to be this couple in an index for the 1860 census in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Here is the index info: Traphill Township 621. James Burchett and Susan (Baldwin) 622. James Burchett, Sr. and Sarah (Wood) 623. John Burchett and Delphia (Baldwin)
Parents of Sarah Sally; Oliver Woods and Mahala Pauline Anderson. Mahala Pauline Anderson arrived in New York from Ireland, we think, as a bonded servant in the late 1700's or early l800's .She was sent to get water for the people she was traveling with and either jumped her bond or became lost.A family by the name of Woods befriended her and she went with them to Danville, Va.Oliver was the son of that Woods family.
I have also found a contradictory bit that shows Sarah Sally being the daughter of John K Woods,Sr. (son of Joseph Wood Sr.)This sources shows Sarah's brother, Anderson Woods (born 1803) as marrying Agnes Burchett (b.1803).Agnes and James Burchett are shown as being siblings.
This is a recent finding, and I haven't yet resolved the contradiction.Would love any insight you have to share.
I have more information on the children of Jenny and John, as they are my direct line.
