ACHELIS F. BURCHETT was born in Hancock County, Tenn., March l, l825, and died at his home in Richland Township, Decatur County, Iowa, Nov. l7, l904, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and l7 days.
He was united in marriage to LEAH ANDERSON in his native State in January, l845. To this union eight children were born, four sons and four daughters, all of whom are living except one daughter who preceded her father to the city of the dead.
The deceased was converted in the eighteenth year of his life and united with the Baptist Church at Sneedsville, Tenn., and was baptized by Rev. James Gilbert in l843, thus commencing the virtues of a long Christian life, faithful until the end came.
He moved with his family to Indiana about l848 and came to Decatur County, Iowa, in l855. Settling on a farm as above stated, where he passed away, enduring many of the privations of early pioneer life. The deceased united with the Camden Baptist Church Nov. 20, l858, and was ordained a deacon of this church Feb. l9, l859, continuing a faithful, respected and loved member until the death angel came and the silver cord was severed and he entered into rest.
MR. BURCHETT leaves his aged wife, now in the 83d year of her life, four sons, three daughters and a number of grandchildren with a large circle of relatives and ardent devoted friends to mourn his absence, but they sorrow not as those who have no hope.
Funeral services were conducted at Camden Church and were largely attended, many not being able to gain admittance. The serman was by request delivered by Rev. F. Edwards, of Osceola, the text being Job 5:26, after which the remains were laid just east of the church to await the resurrection of the just.
