In the hopes that someone has the answer to this question, especially Ann Blomquist, I've appended to the original information about John Burkhalter:
I've recently dug into the Burkhalter family in Edgefield, SC, and spent several days there going through deed and will books, and other records.(By the way, they have a wonderful geneaological reference library there.)I found several references to John Buckhalter (Burkhalter), and found proof of his relationship to Michael 2.I've also found Daniel Burkhalter in Edgefield, as a witness to deed transactions in 1807-08.I agree that Daniel is the correct age to be the child mentioned on the 1790 and 1800 census for South Carolina.I have located Daniel in Baldwin County, Georgia, (1810), and also agree that John must have moved from Edgefield to Putnam County, GA, by 1815, along with Elias and the rest of his family.
I confirmed Daniel's presence in Pike County, Mississippi sometime by 1818-1819 (mentioned in Connerly's history, as well as Pike County records).I can not, however, find any record of Daniel's marriage to Mary Palmore in Georgia, and I CAN NOT find any document on which John Buckhalter says that Daniel is his son, or on which Daniel says that John Buckhalter is his father.
Daniel is my 3rd great grandfather, and I believe there is the connection to John. The circumstantial evidence is plentiful, but I still want the "proof", if it exists.
Does anyone know how we know that Daniel Burkhalter is John Buckhalter's son?Is there a record of the marriage of Daniel to Mary Palmore?
