Hello. One of my ancestors was an Isabella BURROWS born in ~1830 in Skirton, Lancashire, England. I know almost nothing about her parents. I know her father was John BURROWS, and he was a Coach Builder. I don't know who her mother was.
Isabella seems to have moved to Liverpool, England, as a child. I don't know whether she went alone, or whether her family movied there.
There were 4 John BURROWS who died in Liverpool during the 1840's, and one of them might have been her father. So, she could have been orphaned.
I have seen old postings on a R.W. Board where some brothers were born in Lancashire, England, during the 1830's. Since I don't know anything about Isabella's family, I don't know about her siblings.
Isabella married in Liverpool in 1856 to a John LEWIS. They seem to have had only one child in 1859, John "Stanley" LEWIS. The parents both died around 1870, and Stanley went first to the Blue Coat School and then to the Liverpool Sheltering Homes. From there he was "shipped to Canada" as a "child migrant." He went to a family's home in Nova Scotia.
In Canada the "thousands" of "unwanted children" who arrived there were known as "British Home Children" or "Home Children, Canada."
In 1879, Stanley married another "Home Child," Mary CORKILL, also born in Liverpool in 1860. They married in Nova Scotia and then migrated to Massachusetts. They settled in Stoneham, MA, and had .13. children.
I know a little about Mary CORKILL's family. Her 5 siblings also were "shipped to Canada." And, I know a little about her parents and ancestors from the Isle of Man.
But, I know only a little about Stanley's family back in Liverpool. He had at least 4 sets of uncles and aunts back in Liverpool, from his father's brothers and sisters. But, I know nothing about any BURROWS relatives.
I saw an old posting about 2 BURROWS brothers born in Lancashire, England, in the 1830's, who migrated to Massachusetts. I think the researcher said they settled in Fall River. I suppose there is always the chance they could have been Isabella's brothers.
I don't have any information on Isabella's siblings, or mother, so I don't know who could have been related to her.
I'm seeing very few queries about BURROWS families in Lancashire, England, on either the Lists or Boards. So, I don't know how many families there there in the 1750 to 1850 timeframe.
