I seriously doubt that this is the origin of the Housen name which Dr. John Housen Bush (ca 1770-ca 1832) used. Although more research should be done regarding your find.No Bush researchers from this branch have indicated any roots in the NJ area to date. The first concrete and proven evidence of this Bush line has been in the Laurens/Newberry County, South Carolina area about 1790. While there are several possible indications this branch of the Bush family MAY have had it's earlier roots in the Virginia area, there is as yet no solid proof.
The Housen/HowsonCAN be found in Virginia records in areas where there are Bush members who have not yetproven related to our own. A Robert Howson was a large landowner in the Alexandria and Stafford County, Virginia area about 1700. He was closely associated with the Alexander family. There are other Housen/Howsons found scattered throughout other early Virginia records, as well. None have yet to be solidly linked toBush members there.
Keep on digging, please!! The answer may be out there!
