I do think the William Bennett Bush you found is ours. How fantastic to finally know what his middle initial stood for. There are several possible reasons for the use of the name Bennett. One may hold the key to earlier identification of our Bush line.
I previously mentioned that William Bennett Bush's mother, Mary Rowland Bush was the niece of Rev. Micajah Bennett and that her father Rev. Reuben Rowland was not only Bennett's long time friend and another Baptist preacher but also hisbrother in law at one time through the Blalock family. Rowland married Anna Blalock, d/o John Blalock.Bennett married an unproven Blalock daughter possibly named Molly. These marriages go back to ca 1773 in Albemarle County, VA where the two men were charter members of the first Baptist church there. Bennett's wife died and there appears to have been at least one other before his last wife Ellender Johnson. Bennett died in 1798 in Newberry Co., SC and Ellender was his wife at the time of his death.
Regarding this same Bennett line and a Bush family also found in Albemarle County at the same time:Micajah Bennett's father, Richard Bennett left his will in 1785 in Granville Co., NC. It named his wife and children. Micajah was named and his sister Francis Bush were included.
Francis Bennett Bush's husband's identity has never been proven. Deed data found in Albemarle County suggests Francis Bennett was the wife of Joseph Bush, the son of Phillip Bush of Orange/Spotsylvania Co., VA. I should mention that researchers for this Joseph Bush do NOT recognize his first wife to be Francis Bennett. I think the deeds of Albemarle County and Richard Bennett's will dispute their claims.
Along with the appearance of Joseph Bush and his wife, Francis on Albemarle County deeds, there is another connection between the Bennett and Bush family there. Micajah Bennett was also the brother of THomas F. Bennett who was also named in Richard Bennett's will. There was land conveyed between THomas F. Bennett and Joseph Bush's family also in Albemarle Co.
If in fact Francis Bennett DID marry Joseph Bush then Bush would have been Micajah Bennett's brother in law and in turn "related" to Reuben Rowland by marriage. This would establish a relationship between the Bennett/Rowland and Bush families as early as 1773 in Albemarle County, VA. IT does not however connect Joseph Bush to Dr. John H. Bush YET.
DR. John H. Bush resided in Sumner Co., TN after leaving Laurens/Newberry Co., SC. He appears in land and court records in Sumner from 1800-1810 although he held land in Caldwell Co., KY at the same time. William Bennett Bush was born in 1796 and census data records he was born in TN.
While in TN DR. John H. Bush is found on court records for the Cochran family there. If you do a search on this Bush forum for Tabitha Cochran Bruce you will find a connection to Joseph Bush in North Carolina. Bruce descended from Joseph Bush's aunt's line.
I AM getting off the subject a bit - as usual! My point however is that I have long suspected that Dr. John H. Bush was related to Joseph Bush in some way. I could never prove the connection but circumstances seemed to support the idea on many points. He was NOT Joseph's son however.
Your latest find for William BENNETT Bush adds more credence to the idea!! Thanks!!!!!!!
Can you send me that link again for the land record?? Please?
