Rachel Miller Bush was born 3 Dec 1830 Callaway, MO, and died 14 Mar 1915 Hickory, MO, and is buried at the Weaubleau Church Cemetery in Hickory County, MO (from tombstone in Weaubleau, MO). She is the daughter of Jordan Bush and Sally Miller Stuart who came to Callaway from Clark County, KY. On the 1850 Callaway, MO census Rachel and new husband were living two houses from her parents.
The marriage record: "I do hereby certify that I solemized the rites of matrimony between Thomas Fitzhugh and Rachel Bush on the 25th day of January 1849. James Criswell - Minister of the Gospel" Also on the same day by the same minister in the house of Alexander Fitzhugh (Rachel's father in law) the marriage of Thomas' sister Permelia Fitzhugh to James Bartley. A double wedding.
Copy of original Administrator's Affidavit of Jordan Bush 23 Aug 1881 in Callaway County, MO. " In the matter of the estate of Jordan Bush deceased ..............heirs of Jordan Bush deceased, to wit: Sallie M. Bush, widow; F. M., J. T., Herndon, Allen D., Samuel, Fannie, Billie, Rachel Fitzhugh, and Lucy and Adelaide children of deceased and two of the grandchildren." ( The writing is hard to read at the end as they were running out of room and squeezed it all in. It is very clearly "Rachel Fitzhugh" )
Thomas Fitzhugh and Rachel Bush are the parents of 14 children: Sarah, Mary, John, Lavinia, Frances, Virginia, George (my ancestor), Harriet, Thomas, Lucas, Robert, Charles, Ella and Elmore.
Jordan Bush is the son of Francis Bush and Rachel Martin of Clark County, KY and Alexander Campbell Fitzhugh (father of Thomas) is the son of John Fitzhugh and Lucy Redd of Virginia. Alexander Fitzhugh's wife was Nancy Cason who was the daughter of Thomas Cason and Nancy Day.
I noticed a lot of family trees on Roots Web Family Trees that did not have Rachel listed as a child of Jordan Bush and Sally Stuart and I assume it is because she was not listedwith the Jordan Bush family on the 1850 Callaway MO US census - she was listed with Thomas Fitzhugh (Fitzhue) as his wife -. If anyone reading this has a RootsWeb family tree with the Clark County, KY Bushes would you please add Rachel when you get a chance. Thank you.
