Hello Diane, the Syracuse part fits. Catherine Bustin was the maiden name of my Great, Great, Grandmother who lived in Syracuse in the 1850's and probably before. She was married to a William Shaughnessey. When and where I don't know. Her DC has the name Bustin and the 1860 census has a Michael Bustin living with her. The fact that Bustin is fairly unknown in Ireland suggests we are probably related. I have to dig out my Grenhams disk and see how many they have. I think it is only about 45. I don't recall if the name in Ireland was BUSTEED or BUSTIN. One exists, the other doesn't. If you say them out loud you would see how it may have been mispelled when they got on a ship. I have no info about immigration that I'm confident with. They may have come in from Canada also since they settled in Syracuse. It was easier for a British citizen to come into Canada than Boston or NY. If you have a clue about where in Ireland let me know. After the holidays I'll look at Grenhams again.
