Ada(Proctor) Butcher,b.abt1862 in IL, wife of Dr.John C.Butcher,missionary India
I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Ada C. Proctor – American Mission – Moradabad, W.P., India”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Rockford (Winnebago Co.) IL, and she looks to be about age 25.
I found Ada C. Proctor, age 18, in the 1880 census for Cloud Co., KS, as daughter of Charles and Caroline Proctor. In a book by George W. Isham, titled “Two Years in India”, he states that Ada Proctor “from Illiniois, went to India and there married Rev. Dr. Butcher, missionary at Moradabad.” Checking on Dr. John C. Butcher revealed that he was a medical doctor and missionary under the Methodist Episcopal Church. In a 1916 passport application, his middle name is shown as Clark and his birthdate as 5 Apr 1857 in England. In that application, he lists his wife as Ada C. Butcher (born 1862), with minor children Ethel C. (born 1902) and Florence C. (born 1904), both of whom were born in India.
Get back to me at [email protected] if you are related to Ada C. Proctor Butcher.
