Here is what I know about this:
Lived in Essex County Virginia prior to the Revolution. Then moved to Warren County North Carolina and later Mecklenberg County North Carolina sometime after 1787. He was a soldier of the American Revolution under Captain James Clayton.

JAMES BYRUM, PRIVATE, VIRGINIA CONT'L LINE, $24.66 ANNUAL ALLOWANCE, $73.98 AMOUNT RECEIVED, APRIL 3, 1833 PENSION STARTED AGE 78
Listed on the 1790 Federal Census for Mecklinburg County as James Biram. 1 male over 16, 3 males to 16 and 2 females. Page 349 line 18.
Listed on the Federal Census for Mecklinburg County North Carolina 70 to 80 years oldwith one male 30 to 40, 2 females 20 to 30, 1 female 30 to 40, and one female 70-80 and living next door to Bazzel Smith.
I was unaware of the Pike County connection.
