"Lucy Horsley, daughter of Wm. Horsley (dec'd)" married David Anderson 21 Sept 1785 in Prince Edward County, VA.I have spent ages researching this line. The only William Horsley the right age to have been her father AND deceased by the time of her marriage, that I have been able to find, is the William Horsley who married Mary Cabell. However, the Cabell family history at UVA's Alderman Library (which is referenced on the Cabell Foundation website), does not include Lucy as one of William Horsley's and Mary Cabell's children.
David Anderson was born 16 Jul 1756 in Cumberland Co, VA and died 5 Aug 1835 in Prince Edward Co, VA.Lucy Horsley would have been born ca. 1760 (which places her at exactly the right age to have been William Horsley's and Mary Cabell's last child.)She died at Boydton, Mecklenburg Co, VA around 1843.
David Anderson and Lucy Horsley had 11 children: Tarleton, Mary, Sarah, Thomas H., William I., Catherine, Lucy, Nancy, James, Garland, and Lucretia.
Further, William Horsley had ties to Amherst County, Virginia in that he is listed in some guardian bonds there (Amherst Co Book 3, pg. 66).David Anderson & Lucy Horsley left land in Amherst County to their son (my ancestor), Garland Anderson.
And, there are the ties to the Jordan family...William Cabell, s/o Dr. William Cabell and Elizabeth Burks, married Margaret Jordan, d/o Col. Saml. Jordan. My David Anderson's father was Jordan Anderson, s/o James Anderson and Mary Jordan.
Can anyone offer me any other suggestions as to who the William Horsley, father of Lucy Horsley is, if it is NOT the William Horsley who married Mary Cabell?Or could it be that Mary Cabell was pregnant with Lucy when William Horsley wrote his will on 24 June 1760, which would explain why she is not listed?
