My maiden name was Caddy.I have been researching the Caddy family history, off and on, for twentyfour years. My Great Great Grandmother was journeying dairymaid Martha Caddy, daughter of Thomas Caddy and Hannah Caddy nee Billing, bornSugnall, north Staffordshire in 1839.I have a copy of their marriage certificate.Great Grandfather was Henry Caddy, her son, baptised Silverdale in December 1857 but never registered with the civil authorities.Martha travelled south with her infant son and married Thomas Head in 1859, in Wolverhampton, giving herself as spinster and her name as Caddey and her father's name as Thomas Caddey. She had several other children with Thomas Head and died aged 38 in 1877.She is buried inHoly Trinity Churchyard,Short Heath, Willenhall,(formerly Staffordshire, now West Midlands.)Henry married Amy Davenport in August 1877 having my grandfather Frederick Henry the next year.I have details of most of the other Short Heath Caddys from this time.My grandfather, FrederickHenry, and his brother Sam. travelled to and worked in America and possibly Canada.Frederick returned.Great Uncle Sam stayed. They worked in logging, coalmining and railroadtrack laying.Uncle Sam married and had family in the US.Lexington, Virginia, possibly Canada.I recall letters from him and his wife Aunt Doll.He was a miner and then, I think, a Coalmining Trade Union Official.Quite an important person. In about 1952,they embarked on what would now be remembered as a Grand Tour of Europe, travelling to England by luxury liner, one of the "Queens" I believe, visiting Rome etc. and staying for a while at The Dorchester, in London. They then called on us in Short Heath.I was only seven years of age but recall them well.Aunt Doll (Dorothy) and Uncle Sam.My father was Frederick Samuel Caddy - an excellent singer who madesome records. at Uncle Sam's request, which went to America."Wagon Wheels" and "Old man River", for the relatives there.Sadly we lost touch in the nineteen sixties. My name used to be Christine Caddy and my sister was (then) Margaret Caddy. We lived in Wood Lane, Short Heath, Willenhall, which used to be in Staffordshire, now West midlands.Any American or other relatives, please feel free to contact meI have certification and documentation for most of the above.
