Assuming he could write, how would Jean Cadieu(x), son of Jean Cadieu(x) and Marie Valade, have written his name? Father`s name is written Cadieu on marriage contract to Marie Valade, but the Cadieux spelling is commonplace elsewhere. Jean Cadieux, son, married to Marie Bourdon is my ancestor. From what I understand, he is the protagonist and author of "La Complainte de Cadieux". Yet legend suggests that his wife was an Algonquin woman (named in The Passing of Cadieux?)whereas Marie Bourdon`s pedigree can be traced back to France. Can somebody clear this up for me?
