I have a copy of a bible record for the William Ricketts Cahoon family which states:
Alphonsa Benson Cahoon was born on March 14, 1841. She married Mr. Thomas Salisbury on October 12, 1859. It is noted in this bible he was the first husband of Alphonsa and his death is noted, but no date is mentioned.
Another entry shows she marrieda Martin Devereaux at Philadelphia on another date.
The next entry that mentions her is "Virgil D. Brown, the third husband of Alphonsa died in New Castle , DE." Finally it states"Alphonsa Benson Brown ( nee Cahoon then Salibury, Devereaux and Brown) died near Farmington, Delaware, April 26, 1894 aged 53 years, 1 month and 12 days.
I descend from her sister, Lydia Ann Cahoon, who married JamesCotton.
Lydia and Alphonsa were the children of William Ricketts Cahoon and Louisa Benson of Smyrna, DE.
Williams's mother was Rachel Ricketts daughter of Thomas Ricketts and Nancy Sipple.Thomas was a lieutenent for the Maryland Militia durign the Revolutionary War and is listed bythe DAR as a patriot.
His father was Samuel Cahoon who descends from William Cahoon who came to america in 1650 after beign ransomed as an indentured servant. The Cahoons come from Luss, Scotland.
