I've been stumped for about a year now. Nicholas is as far back as I can trace.
Nicholas R. Cain in Dinwiddie or St. George county around 1800. His wife's name was Francis (A?). They had at least 3 sons
1) Nathaniel D. Cain b. 1815-1818. He worked for the Rail Road as listed in the 1850 census. His wife was Virgina Farley, they married in 1873. This may have been a 2nd marriage but I'm not sure.
2) William Cain b. 1822 . His wife's name was Anna. she was born in New York
3) George Robert Cain b.1819-1822. (My 2nd great grandfather ) He was a shoe maker by trade. He was married as shown in the 1850 census(listed as Robert R. Cain). He had a son by his 1st wife named Emmit R. Cain b. 1848. After the death of his first wife he remarried. Elizabeth Boisseau (my 2nd Great grandmother) She was known as Bettie Ann Cain. They had 4 children 3 boys and a girl. One of their sons was my Great Grandfather, John Jefferson Cain. b. 1867 d.July 3,1928.
I know of a number of Cains in the Petersburg area but have not been able to link Nicholas to any. I'm also stumped with my 2nd G grandmother. There are a lot of Boisseau's in Petersburg as well but I have nothing beyond her Father's name and profession.
