Sue,
I have read the item you refer to. I have found, at that time, there were usually 2 sides to most news items.
The other side that I refer to consists of the fact that each brother was serving in the Civil War; each were taught to be expert marksmen and were valued for their markmanship.
William Harrison was sent out on patrol by his Commanding Officer; while Harrison was away this Commanding Officer made unwanted advances to William Harrison's fiancee. Harrison returned unexpectedly and that was when he shot his commanding Officer. Harrison was captured, and was helped to escape by his younger brother, John James Calcote.
William Harrison Calcote was listed in the census of 1860 as "Artist". His talented future was spoiled by the division of our Nation by the Civil War.
