Steve,
I haven't been able to do much on my research of John G Calef lately due to a family illness but I was very surprised to find a response from the direct line of Robert Calef.
I have read through several Calef accounts and most of them surmise that all the Calef's in the US are probably from Robert's line.Do you agree with this theory?
Have you ever come across my John G Calef by any chance? There was a religious group that settled in Tiskilwa, Bureau Co Ilthat called themselves the Providence Colony. They came here from NH.I read through the history of the Providence Colony and of course it talks mostly about the men who came out here and purchased the land and about the settlement itself, but as I read further it mentioned that others came here and the Providence Colony sold them land.John Calef doesn't appear to be an active member of the Providence Colony yet I have often pondered that he may have been somehow connected with the Colony.Or perhaps the Greeley woman he was married to or his brother-in-law Benjamin Couch.
Have you ever come across any of these names?
I probably have alot more questions as I get time I will get back with you.Thank you for e-mailing me.It brightened my day.
Thanks
Lois
