Suzanne, I read your query with interest. If you haven't found anything by this time, try checking into Monroe Co.,(W)VA records.
I cannot attest to the accuracy of any of this, since I received it from a secondary source and have not proven any of it myself (it's not my direct line...it just crosses one of my earlier lines in Monroe County, WV).
Look for information on John CALES/KALES and Keziah MEADOWS.Supposedly, John CALES was b. ca. 1817, and Keziah (Keziah Elizabeth or Elizabeth Keziah) MEADOWS was b. ca. 1815, and she died at the age of 102 or 103.
I located this: WFT CD #229, Marriage Index: KY, NC, TN, VA, WV....for Monroe County, VA, John CALES to Kisiah MEADOWS on 18 Nov 1833.
From what I can gather, it would appear that John CALES and Keziah MEADOWS divorced, and he moved to Indiana, and then to Illinois, taking at least two sons with him: 1.Parkinson CALES, b. 1832-1834; d. 1893 2.Andrew Jackson CALES, b. 9 Feb 1836; d. 1926
I am assuming that both sons were born in Monroe Co., (W)VA, since that's where their parents married.
Again, I have not proven any of this out, but perhaps it will help you?Oh, and a few years ago there was a hefty discussion on the MEADOWS email genealogy list regarding these MEADOWS and CALES...
You might find something worthwhile in the archives for that list. Lainie
