My Calhoun family is from Opp in Covington County Alabama and Elba in Coffee County Alabama.My paternal grandfather was John William Calhoun Sr. b.1886.On some census records he was called "Willie". He married Esther Kendrick(s)b.1886 Alabama.They had 13 children, all born in Elba Coffee Co. Alabama, 12 of which survived into adulthood.
The family moved to Mobile, Mobile Co. Alabama during the Depression.John W. and Esther (Kendrick) Calhoun last lived on Chin St. off of Telegraph Rd. which leads into the City of Mobile very near the Port of Mobile and The Alabama State Docks.John W. Calhoun Sr. worked at the State Docks as well as The Bankhead Tunnel which runs below Mobile Bay.

Nov 1869 and Anna Belle Braswell b.1869 (aka Annie Belle or Belle).All were born at Elba, Coffee Co., Alabama.According to the 1900 Federal Census for Elba, Coffee Co. Census James T. Calhoun was 30 yrs old, both parents born in Georgia, and had been married to wife Annie Belle for 15 years.At that time, Annie Belleand James T. She was always said that she was German.I've noticed in several Covington and Conecuh Co. Census records where the wife was from Bavaria, Germany.Does this ring a bell?
