The Dougald Calhoun discussed here is my great, great grandfather. He was married to Anna Maria Martin (born SC) on Sept 6, 1855. His eldest son John Caldwell Calhoun was born 15 Jan 1857 in Florida and died 15 December 1919. John C. is buried in Perry, Taylor County, Florida. Dougald and Anna Maria are buried in New Hope Cemetery near Perry, Florida, and lived all of their married life in Florida. Establishing the date of Dougald's birth is a little confusing. His tombstone says that he died 5 Feb 1879 at the age of 63. And the census reports even add to the conflicting info; the Dougald on all these reports is definitely the same person. The 1850 census says he is 29; this would put his birth date at 1821. The 1860 census says he's 38, so there's a corresponding date of 1821/22. The 1870 census says he is 58 at the time (BD would be 1812);this one has to be wrong, but I don't know how to square the census dates with the tombstone info which suggests he was born in 1816. By the way, the 1870 census says his father is foreign born. This group of Calhouns and the descendants lived for generations in Florida. Any further information that you might have would be greatly appreciated!
