I am a descendant of Calter, Jhon (John) Calter, from the town of Fauleens, county Mayo. There is a book that was photocopied and given to my grandfather. I now hve this copy in my possension, but there are pages missing. If he didn't like something, I suppose he just threw it in the aga, thats the kind of man he was.
Origionally the family comes from County down, there is a town called 'ballyculter'. This is very near where st patrick built his first church and there is a family story that has been handed down, that it was our family who gave the land to the saint himself.
Calters in Mayo, Fauleens is your best bet. My family have lived on the farm for at least the past ninety years and I'm guessing long before that. But records are scarce.
You are welcome to e-mail me back with any queries.
