Margaret (Purtle) and John Cammack, Sr. were my 3rd great-grandparents.My brother, Cecil Cagle Cammack, researched and wrote a book, published privately, aboutour Cammack lineage.Cecil did not attempt to go back past Margaret (Purtle) and John Cammack, Sr., but he thought John was from Spotsylvnia County, Va. Cecil did not have proof of a connection to Spotsylvania County, therefore, he put it in his 13 page introduction along with other possibilities.Cecil is now 97 years old and still sending me emails. He researched and wrote a chapter for each of Margaret (Purtle) and John CAmmack, Sr.'s children. (1) DAVID, b. Dec. 1774, in South Carolina; d. May 23, 1850, in Clarke County, Ala; m. "John and Margaret Purtle Cammack, Their Descendants and Connecting Lines" Compiled and Written by Cecil C. Cammack, Tyler, Tx, 1983, is probably not in any libraries. He has a chapter for each of the above named children of Margaret (Purtle) and John Cammack, Sr.
Chapter IV, pp. 223-272, is Sarah (Milburn) and Michael Cammack and their descendants.(1) Joseph M and wife Angeline Elizabeth Eiland; (2) Celinda and husband Nicholas Harder; (3) Lewis and Arminta Cureton 2nd Harriet (Abbott) Sanders;(4) William H. and wife Mary J. I, Clara L.(Cammack) Park, have researched the Purtle name:Margaret's parents were Barbara and Michael Purtle (b. 1736 in Lancaster County, PA, Lutheran Church baptisimal records. Michael's parents, Dorothea and Jacob Birkel were our immigrants from Hinterzarten, Baden, Germany, via ship Mary 1733, Philadelphia.
My mother descends from Michael's brother, John Jacob Birkel, b. 1734 in Lancaster County, PA.My parents were 5th cousins, but they never knew it. The Pirkle name is spelled numerous ways, and the B and the P are interchangeable in German language.John Jacob's name in Rockingham County, No. Car.,is Pirkle. Margaret (Purtle) Cammack's mother died in South Carolina, probably in the home of Margaret.
