VALDEZ GENEVIEVE CECELIA Genevieve Cecelia Canales Valdez, 90, of San Diego, died in her home on Dec. 11, 2004. She was born on Nov. 4, 1914 in Galveston, Texas. Mrs. Valdez was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Canales and Lucia Cavazos Sanchez. She was a descendent of the first Spanish families who settled in the mid 1700s in the Lower Rio Grande area of Texas. Mrs. Valdez was the last survivor of eleven siblings and the widow of Hilario Valdez, whom she was married to for 58 years. Mrs. Valdez is survived by her daughters, Diane Valdez of San Diego; Catherine Allen of Rockford, Ill.; Lucia Minor and her husband, Charles of Martinez, Ca.; her son, Hilary Valdez, of Joshua Tree, Ca., and by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 14, 2004 at Goodbody Mortuary, 5027 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego. On Dec. 15, 2004, a Celebration of Life Mass at noon with Msg. Pentagrast officiating will be at Mission San Diego de Alcala, 10818 San Diego Mission Road. Interment immediately following at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, 4470 Hilltop Dr., San Diego. The family request that memorials be made to the San Diego Catholic Charities or to Father Joe's St. Vincent de Paul Society. Published in the San Diego Union-Tribune on 12/14/2004.
