In my research on the Fowlers of Kinsale, I have encountered these Cantys.
Here's what I know:
Jeremiah Canty, son of Michael Canty, mason, married Mary Fowler daughter of Robert Fowler, ropemaker, in September 1865 in Kinsale. I believe that Mary was sister to Robert Fowler b. circa 1836 and husband of Elizabeth Calnan/Callanan.
Jeremiah Canty and Mary Fowler had a number of children: Michael b. Feb. 20, 1867, Robert b. June 27, 1868, Jane Aug. 16, 1870, Jeremiah Sept. 12 1872, Stephen April 1 1875, Mary March 17, 1878, Jeremiah Sept. 22, 1881 (repeat name would have been used where a previously named child died). According to parish records, Jeremiah married Catherine Savage Mar 30 1914, St. Patrick's Church, Grangetown, Cardiff, Wales.
I have names of godparents as well if you would like those. I have also had some correspondence with a researcher tracing an Ellen Canty b. 1851 Kinsale who married an Edward Reilly.
Jane Canty may well have married a Denis Carthy or McCarthy, as there was a Jeremiah Canty living with them in the 1901 census at Friar's Gate. In 1911, this family is listed as McCarthy. Jeremiah Canty is no longer with them in 1911. In 1901, a Michael Canty, mason, and wife Mary were living at #1 Rock Street, Kinsale. And in 1911 at the same address the Cantys were still there: Michael, mason, Mary, Jeremiah, Timothy, Michael and Mary.
Would love to hear more from you, especially if you have any information on Mary Fowler's origins.
