I am researching my Capels line, a large proportion of which settled in the Syracuse/Central New York area.Pasted below shows only as far back as I've been able to go.Below is all the information I have about Generation 3 and earlier, and I am very discouraged.I don't know if there were other children/siblings.From Generation 4 forward, I have a lot of information.(Lester Henry Capels was my grandfather.)Are our Williams connected??

The 1880 (June 16) Census in the Village of Geddes lists him as 73 yrs old, married (not widowed, though wife is not listed among the household); occupation is listed as Farmer; residence at 6 Exchange Street.He is also listed as having Dropsy at the time of the census.His place of birth is listed as New York, as is that of his father; however his mother's place of birth appears to be listed as Germany.

Notes for LOREN JOHN CAPELS:
1870 NY Census lists 9-yr old Loren as LORENZO.Also listed in the household at that time is 30-yr old Lorenzo (uncle?).In 1880, the Census lists 19-year old Loren as a "Cooper", along with 17-year old brother George.At that time, the family was living at #6 Exchange Street.The 1900 Census lists 38-yr old Loren still a cooper, as well as his 17-yr old son Edward, and as owner of the home at 1010 Avery Avenue (with mortgage).According to his death certificate, he was born in Mallory, NY, and lived in Syracuse for 50 years, which suggests he moved into the city some time around 1879.Of his parents, the death certificate lists only Lester Capels as his father; his mother's name and parents' birthplaces are listed as "Can't be learned."He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt, NY, Lot 2.
Relationship to the Lorenzo CAPLES who enlisted January 5, 1864, in Syracuse at age 19 in the Civil War, Company A, 16th New York Volunteer Army Heavy Artilery, and who died January 6, 1906, aged 63, at his home at 902 Center Street, Syracuse, is currently unknown.

Syracuse Post Standard, 1-12-35:"Mary A. Capels died Thursday at home, 1010 Avery Avenue.Surviving are 8 sons; 2 daughters, a brother Daniel and sister Johanna Carroll.Services will take place at the home 9:00 Monday morning and in St. Brigid's Church at 9:30 o'clock."
According to Mary A. Capels' certificate, issued January 12, 1935, the cause of death was a Cerebral Hemorrhage, with Diabetes Mellitis a contributing factor.The cerebral hemorrhage, which may have been equivalent to a stroke, occurred 10 days before her death, and she suffered from diabetes for 9 years.She died at home, which is listed as 1010 Avery Ave., (Syracuse, ), Ward 7.Her trade is listed as Housework.Information in the certificate was provided by Edward Capels.

The 1900 Census lists her occupation as "Decorator Pottery" and puts her birth year as March, 1884.Her death record suggests that she suffered for 10 days with a heart ailment and died just short of her 31st birthday.Buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt, NY, Lot 2.
